Concrete Block and Masonry Construction for Residential and Commercial Properties in Tampa Bay

Blocks and Masonry

Concrete block and masonry work forms the structural backbone of outdoor spaces. Walls, pillars, planters, and outdoor structures built from block and masonry material handle load, define property boundaries, and hold up to Florida's heat and humidity when constructed correctly.

Perkins Concrete Inc. handles concrete block and masonry work for homeowners, businesses, and contractors throughout Hillsborough, Pinellas, and Pasco Counties.

Concrete Block Walls

Block walls serve both structural and aesthetic purposes — property boundaries, privacy screens, noise barriers, and retaining applications. We build concrete block walls sized and reinforced for the intended purpose, with proper footing and drainage built in from the start.

Pillars & Columns

Concrete block pillars anchor fencing, frame driveways, and define entry points on residential and commercial properties. We build pillars to match the scale and finish of the surrounding hardscape, with cap options in concrete or paver material.

Raised Planters & Garden Beds

Block planters add structure and definition to outdoor spaces while containing soil away from hardscape surfaces. We build raised planters and garden beds in a range of sizes and configurations, with drainage provisions built into the base.

Outdoor Kitchen & Feature Structures

Concrete block is the standard structural base for outdoor kitchens, fire pit surrounds, and built-in seating. We construct the block framework for outdoor features, ready for finish material, countertop, or appliance installation by other trades.

Screen & Privacy Walls

Decorative block and masonry privacy walls are common on Florida properties for pool surrounds, patios, and side yards. We build screen walls in standard and decorative block, with cap and finish options to complement the surrounding hardscape.

Masonry Repair

Cracked mortar joints, damaged block, and deteriorating caps are common on older Florida masonry. We assess and repair existing block and masonry structures, including tuckpointing, block replacement, and cap restoration.

The Perkins Concrete Difference

What Sets Good Masonry Work Apart

Block and masonry work looks straightforward but fails in predictable ways when the foundation and reinforcement aren't right. In Florida's soil conditions, a block wall without a proper footing will shift. A structure without drainage provisions will hold water against the base and deteriorate from the ground up.

Every Perkins Concrete masonry project starts with a site evaluation. We assess soil conditions, load requirements, and drainage before any block goes down. That applies to a small planter the same as a full block wall.

You work directly with the owners throughout. One point of contact, consistent communication, and a single point of accountability from the first site visit through the final walkthrough.

Common Questions

  • A retaining wall holds back soil and manages grade changes — it's built to resist lateral pressure from the ground behind it. A block wall at grade serves as a boundary, privacy screen, or decorative feature and isn't built to the same load spec. We assess your site and recommend the right structure for what you're trying to accomplish.

  • In most cases, yes. We evaluate the existing block, mortar color, and cap material during the site visit and let you know what's achievable before work begins.

  • We construct the concrete block framework and structural base. Countertop installation, appliances, and finish material are handled by other trades. We're glad to coordinate with them or work alongside a general contractor managing the full project.

  • Yes. We work with commercial property owners and contractors on block wall and masonry projects of all sizes. Commercial estimates within 10 days.

Why Perkins

What Sets Us Apart

Perkins Concrete has been family-owned and operated in the Tampa Bay area since 1989. When you hire us, you work directly with the owners — not a project manager, not a crew foreman. Warren Perkins put his name on this company on day one because the work was supposed to mean something. Forty-seven years and more than 12,000 projects later, that hasn't changed.

We're a veteran owned licensed contractor (License #CPC1457580) and we back every job with a workmanship warranty. Free in-person estimates are available within 36 hours for residential projects and within 10 business days for commercial work.
